CW: Whenever I think of Mirasol and the wonderful staff there, I breathe a prayer of thanksgiving in my heart. My beloved 16-year-old daughter had been active in her eating disorder for over three years, in spite of two lengthy treatment episodes and years of outpatient treatment. When we discovered that her weight was dangerously low, we knew from past experience that just any treatment program would not work for our daughter. Mirasol is unique in the treatment of eating disorders. Your philosophy, flexibility, small census, home-like setting, whole foods philosophy, use of traditional and cutting edge treatment modalities, and, perhaps most importantly, your after care. Our daughter is now healthy, strong, and struggling through the normal stresses of her senior year. AM: I am thankful to you for all the work you do and opportunities that you provide for women with eating disorders. A client I had been working with for only a few days died yesterday from anorexia. A few days before her death, I carried her from her car into my house. I held her hand while her sister made arrangements to admit her for care. I kept thinking that with immediate treatment perhaps she might live even though I could barely feel her life force. She didn't live. It was the first time I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of an eating disorder. On the day I learned of her death, I also learned that you have admitted a second client of mine.
